The ninja was not a killer but he was a simple farmer defending himself and his family. The ninja were only farmers that were attacked by the samurai who stole money and crops from the japanese farmers. Through time the farmers had to defend against the samurai.and devised the art of ninja. They weren't magical demonds of the night they wore masks to scare the samurai and through this came many stories of the ninja. I know the facts to be true not from a book but from being a student of the art for long enough to find out the truth. I know some very high ranking teachers of the styleof MA .The ninja were not hired killers the ones that did these killings were not ninja. The art is still one of the deadliest styles today . So take it from someone who knows the real story of the ninja and has met some teachers of the style. And yes it is safe for kids if they know what the ninja really was but a farmer defending his home and not the nonsence you see on T.V. or the movies.
